I was trying to think of a good topic to post on juxtaposing my experiences in LOTRO with my expectations and excitement about Guild Wars 2, but then November 11th hit and, well, Melmoth says it better and more succinctly than I could.

Yep… he summed up my assesment of the current and “soon to be” titles on offer pretty much on the nose, except perhaps that I’m *less* cautiously optimistic about ArenaNet and GW2.
I guess all my little eggs of hope are in just that one basket… scary, yet exciting too.
I’m really hoping that GW2 will somehow magically transition away from the trend of more and more tightly restricted “on rails” themeparks, and re-introduce at least a little bit of the flavor of a “virtual world” ready to be explored.
At the very least I know it will break free of the extremely old combat mechanics that are present everywhere else. Just the freedom of movement in combat and leaving behind the co-dependency of “trinity” class mechanics alone makes it a game I have to place my hope in, but I really do want to feel that “whatsoverthereitis” again and be able to simply go exploring through new (and beautiful) terrain.
Looking forward to wandering over the next hill to see what lies beyond it.
